How the centre is governed
CEQT reports within the governing structure of the Faculty of Engineering. That gives the centre a formal standing that a voluntary research network does not have: it can hold a budget, make commitments to partners, host degree programmes, and take responsibility for deliverables.
This is the practical difference between CEQT and RCQT, which is a self-organising university-wide working group of quantum researchers with no physical space. Both are needed. A network can span faculties and assemble expertise quickly; a centre can sign a contract.
What the centre is responsible for
- Setting and reviewing the research strategy across the four pillars.
- Stewardship of the graduate programmes in quantum engineering (Ph.D. and M.Sc.).
- Research partnerships, industry engagement and technology transfer.
- Allocation of computing resources and laboratory support.
- Appointment of visiting professors and fellows, under CMU protocol.
Administration
Administrative duties within the centre cover business administration, general administration and academic affairs — including project management, procurement, and student affairs support. Enquiries about any of these should go to the centre contact address in the first instance.
